Saint Lary, the leading winter sport resort in the French Pyrenees, sets an example in protecting the mountain environment26 août 2009
In 2009, Saint Lary invested 14 million Euros into the construction of a new cable car, which will save 1400 car rides, 50 coaches and 20 shuttles every day! Less traffic means less pollution, which keeps our resort beautiful. The stateof-the-art installation can carry 3000 skiers per hour to the peaks in just 8 minutes.
Since 2000, a total of 28 million Euros have been invested in modernising the slopes and strengthening the snow-making system. Today, 80% of the site has guaranteed snow, with a system of 250 snow machines, putting the resort well ahead of the average in France.
Saint Lary is the leading winter sport resort in the Pyrenees and one of the first ten in France to have signed the mountain resortsustainable development charter. The centre of the village is subject to stringent town planning rules so as to preserve its original character.
During its peak season, Saint Lary already welcomes a vast community of English skiers and snowboarders, who are drawn by the Southwest of France, the performances of Pyrenees boarders and the fares of low-cost airlines! The village is accessible from Toulouse (with EasyJet) or Pau (with Ryanair). A free shuttle links the resort to Pau airport, which is one hour and fifteen minutes away by road.
